Scandlines is one of Europe´s largest ferry companies, established as a limited company in 1998 by joining together of the largest national ferry companies in Denmark and Germany.

Our business is the rapid, reliable and comfortable transport of both passengers and freight on 20 international and domestic routes in Danish, German and Swedish coastal waters and the Baltic. Our core area is the waters between Denmark, Germany and Sweden, where we have the densest route network of any ferry line.

In recent years, there have been fundamental changes in the region´s infrastructure in particular the building of road/rail connections across Denmark´s Great Belt and across Øresund between Malmö and Copenhagen.

In this new transport environment, Scandlines´ prime mission is to offer both private individuals and transport companies a competitive and enjoyable alternative to the new fixed links in our core area.

In addition, we are further developing our freight services to - and from the eastern Baltic - and through the Baltic to Russia regions that are fast becoming the world´s most interesting areas of economic growth.

In 1998, almost 30 million passengers travelled with Scandlines, along with 5.8 million cars, 1.1 million lorries and nearly 130,000 coaches. The company also transported some 165,000 railway carriages (both passengers and freight).

A total of approximately 195,000 crossings were made by Scandlines AG´s 35 ferries in 1998.

Complementary activities on board the ferries include catering and on-board-sale. Associated land activities include canteen management service, catering and running restaurants.
